Ian was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Global Assistance Australia in December 2010.

He is an entrepreneur and a highly experienced, results-focused leader who is renowned for his encouraging and approachable management style. It was for these qualities that Ian was selected to lead Allianz Global Assistance Australia into its next phase of growth.

Ian has spent his entire career in the general insurance industry, with the last 20 years in senior executive roles. From his early beginnings at Royal Insurance, Ian has worked in almost every part of the insurance business from underwriting to claims, sales to product research and reinsurance to branch management, before moving into a series of general management positions.

Prior to joining Allianz Global Assistance, Ian spent four years as Chairman of Youi. He was involved with the establishment of the company, using his extensive industry experience and entrepreneurial skills to shape business strategy, product offerings and operational imperatives. Since its launch in 2008 Youi has become a well-known challenger brand in the motor and home insurance market.

For eight years Ian was Chief Executive Officer of RACQ Insurance. Under Ian’s leadership he led the company through a dynamic growth phase, with a strong focus on innovation, customer-focused product development and high quality customer service. In this period, RACQ Insurance recorded a 400 per cent increase in sales, a 600 per cent increase in total assets and a four-fold increase in employee numbers.  

Ian is a Senior Associate of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance, and has held positions as the Institute’s Queensland President and a national board member. He was granted life membership of the Institute in 2005. Ian has also served on various state and product committees for the Insurance Council of Australia and has presented numerous papers at insurance industry seminars and conferences.
